Who We Are

About Face is the military command to turn around and face the opposite direction. That’s exactly what we did when we created About Face Wines. We about faced from the rest of the wine industry and began carving our own path.

We refer to our wines as missions because that is exactly what they are - a mission to make the highest quality wine at the best possible price. In order to accomplish these missions we do not constrain ourselves to just one AVA like so many of our peers. We focus instead on seeking out and producing the best wine for you. However, due to the natural limited quantity in these types of opportunities, once a mission is completed, the wine is gone and we’re on to the next one. If you find a wine you like, stock up.

Although no two missions may be exactly the same, they must all meet our exacting standards to achieve the highest quality wines at the best possible prices in order to bring you relaxation, serenity, and joy.

Great wines don’t have to come in expensive bottles. If you know where to look, you can make great wines at great prices - and we do.

Our Founder

Matt Fowler grew up in a dry county in Northeast Arkansas, far removed from any culinary or wine sophistication. After moving to Virginia with the Marine Corps, he and his dad were on a road trip that took them through Virginia’s wine country. Curiosity piqued, they stopped at one vineyard. Then two. Then many. From that moment on, Matt was in love. He took every opportunity to escape from the discipline and structure of the Marine Corps into the hedonism and serenity of the wineries. He dove headfirst into learning everything he could about the art and science of producing the perfect bottle of wine. He stepped off the path leading him to law school to work at a winery, promising himself that he would find a way to have his own vineyard and winery one day. Several years later and a couple of twist and turns, our sister brand and Matt’s winery, Slouch Hat Wines, was born.
